Dear Friends,

 

The budget news these days is frightening. In addition to the
devastating proposed state budget, we know many of you are fighting
against cuts locally.  From trying to maintain library staff and hours
to protecting materials budgets and programs, all types of libraries are
under intense scrutiny for budget cuts. 

 

We know that local advocacy is the greatest tool we have. Sometimes,
though, librarians need a starting place to direct people on what to do.
We have created "Save My Library: The Local Fight"
(http://www.txla.org/save-my-library) to provide quick and easy
directions to library supporters and to offer talking points and
scripts.

 

We know that many talented library supporters have created their own
wonderful and diverse local campaigns. We offer this page as a resource
to support or kick-start local efforts. 

 

We have added a comment box to the webpage so that you or one of your
library's supporters can share information about the proposed cuts you
are facing at home.

 

Thank you to each and every one of you for all your work promoting
education and well-being in our state. We know these are difficult times
for us all, but we are grateful that the community of librarians and
library supporters is such a talented, passionate, and committed group
of champions for learning.
