Texas Heritage Online
2011 Annual Meeting

The 2011 Texas Heritage Online Annual Meeting will be held February 18th
in San Antonio at the Institute of Texan Cultures
(http://texancultures.com/). This meeting will be focused on the theme
of newspaper digitization. The registration cost for the meeting will be
$40, which includes lunch, breaks, and museum entry.

The opening keynote speaker will be Deborah Thomas, coordinator of the
Chronicling America project at the Library of Congress
(http://chroniclingamerica.loc.gov/), who will discuss how the
partnerships between LC, the NEH, and institutions representing various
states have been formed. The closing keynote speaker will be John
Herbert at the University of Utah, who will discuss the Utah Digital
Newspaper Project (http://digitalnewspapers.org/) and some of the
challenges they have faced, including issues of metadata and online
display.

Other sessions include: 5 minute updates from projects around the state
(expanded!); a panel of researchers, genealogists, and students
discussing how they use digitized newspapers and other texts; and a
panel discussing issues related to outsourcing and partnership
agreements. If you are interested in presenting a 5-minute update on
your project or speaking on a panel, please contact
danielle.plumer at tsl.state.tx.us as soon as possible.

On February 17, we will offer a pre-meeting workshop on Grant Writing
Fundamentals, led by Jennifer Peters of the Texas State Library and
Archives Commission. We will also have a half-day unconference on
newspaper digitization. We invite everyone to come and share their
stories. An additional registration fee of $15 for each of these
sessions applies.
